Guest bedroom makeover
Many would think I was mad to say your guest bedroom could be just as valuable as your master bedroom. By utilising every space in your house to its full potential, the possibilities are endless.
Having recently upsized our home, I now have the benefit of having a ‘spare’ bedroom which we decided should be made into a guest bedroom. I decided to go online for some ideas and I came across an endless range of possibilities. From foldaway furniture in a study room, to hotel like décor, to very homely cottage like rooms that you would mistake for a master bedroom.
So it got me thinking, Why not decorate your guest bedroom while adding value to your home? Here are a few points I’ve researched for you to think about when you are decorating your guest bedroom.
Multiple uses for the room
Firstly you need to think of the primary use for the room, we have many customers that come to us to upgrade their guest bedroom. Kids have finally moved out and they want that quiet office like space they have been wanting for years, or new grandkids on the way they want to have space for them to stay or even a playroom for when they come visiting. Whatever the use for your room you need to decide before you start to renovate.
Choose the right décor
Now you have decided the primary use for your guest bedroom, you need to think of the décor. Are you going for a minimalistic look? Keeping everything neutral with a few splashes of colour in the detailing? Maybe you like the homely feel with some more traditional finishes? We have noticed many of our customers like to use neutral colours on the walls and furniture to give the room a timeless effect and suit many tastes.
Have the right storage
Many of us use guest bedrooms mainly as storage areas for that extra bedding, summer/ winter quilts, or even those things we have that just can’t be thrown away. You need to think about how much storage you are going to need? By installing some fitted furniture, like sliding wardrobes for example. You’re transforming your guest bedroom by not only adding value to your home, you are gaining that essential storage space you need without jeopardising the use of the room. Features like fitted wardrobes help keep your guest bedroom tidy should anyone spring a visit.
