Austerity and massive cuts to social services can be devastating to the lives of the vulnerable and the young, which is why as a company, we feel it is vital to give back to the community and support those with very few options. LinkLiving Ltd is a non-profit charity and is part of the Link Group – one of Scotland’s leading housing, regeneration and support organisations. They provide services to 10,000 families and individuals across 26 Scottish local authority areas.
LinkLiving itself currently offers services in Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian, Fife, and Falkirk, dedicating over 2,500 hours a week of practical support, as well as advice and care to 400 vulnerable adults and young people. We at DM Design heard about the fantastic services that LinkLiving were providing and decided to get involved.
One of the projects from LinkLiving Ltd was transforming an office space to a new training kitchen for service users. We happily donated a brand new fitted kitchen along with top of the range appliances to the project. These facilities will come in use for a number of courses aimed at helping the young and vulnerable in Fife, including the popular ‘cooking on a budget’, in which people on low incomes can learn how to wisely spend their money in terms of value for money and maintaining a healthy diet. The first session in the new kitchen was held last week and it was a great success.
Connor Webster, course participant said, “It was a great way to be introduced to others within the building as I did not know anyone in the area. I also enjoyed getting to know about other things that Greener Kirkcaldy does in the surrounding area.”
Jacqueline Nugent, LinkLiving Service Delivery Manager said, “A huge thank you to DM Design for this fantastic donation. This is a very welcome addition to the range of support we can offer the people who use our services. We already have loads of ideas in the pipeline, so stay tuned!”
We at DM Design are delighted with the success our donation has brought the charity and look forward to hearing how things develop in the future.
Donald McLeod, Managing Director of DM Design said, “LinkLiving is all about improving lives, and if we can help in any way, we are delighted to do so. It’s been wonderful to be able to help others by doing our every-day work of supplying kitchens to fit any space – and we can’t wait to see how LinkLiving, and the people they help, make use of the kitchen going forward.”
